Since the age of 18, our founder lived across four continents — absorbing cultures that each held a sacred relationship with crystals and the earth's energy. One thing became clear: healing is a universal language.
The Beginning
A PhD, a wall, and a bag of stones
Niki was three months into her PhD thesis on Human–AI Interaction when she hit a wall. The research was intense, the pace relentless, and everything felt abstract. She needed something real — something she could hold. Almost by accident, she discovered natural gemstones. She started making bracelets for friends. Not selling, just making.
The Discovery
Crystals as a language
As a researcher, she didn't just string beads together. She started asking questions — what were people actually looking for? What did they want to feel? She began studying crystal meanings, energy properties, intentions. She noticed that every person who held a stone had a story. That human insight became the seed of Yumiere.
The Name
玉 · Lumière
The name came together as naturally as the first bracelet did. 玉 (yù) — the Chinese word for jade and precious gemstone. Lumière — the French word for light. Two languages, two worlds, one belief: that the earth's stones carry light, and that wearing one with intention is an act of choosing yourself.
The Tool
Built in a day, patented with purpose
Drawing on her background in Human–Computer Interaction, Niki realised there could be an interface to make crystal jewellery design accessible to everyone. Within a single day — using advanced AI tools and her design instincts — she built the first version of the Bracelet Designer. It was later patented. Her friends loved how intuitive and empowering it felt — design as a mindful act.
Today
Workshops, custom pieces, and a growing community
Yumiere has evolved from a personal ritual into something shared. Niki now runs intimate in-person workshops in London — crystal jewellery making and crystal grid building — and offers bespoke consultations for people who want a piece made specifically for their intention. No checkout. Just a conversation.
